Female Portrait Bibliophile Large Oil Painting on Canvas

Did you know a portrait of a lady holding, or reading a book was a symbol of education and intelligence. It was the minority of women who were educated in earlier centuries, portraits like this allowed women to be projected as sophisticated. A rise in literacy in the  18th-19th Century: is where you can see where "learning" joined beauty in female portraiture.

This is an oil on canvas, signed and dated on the right above the book. A back moody canvas. Beautiful red hair. Minor flaking on the frame, minor dents and chips on the frame. This is a signed and dated piece, cannot make out the signature but date looks to be '98 likely 1898.
